Brass an Alloy made up of mainly Copper and Zinc with small quantities of other metals like Tin. The Tin would normally be added to brass to improve the turning ability of the final brass Alloy.
Adding small quantities of other metals can change the propeties of an Alloy quite dramaticly. Brass is ussually harder than copper due to its Zinc content.
Brass is commonly used in the Electrical and Plumbing industries. Although it has many other uses. Brass is often cast and then machine finished for such things as household Taps, ball cocks, fuse boards and other plumbing and electrical fittings.
Having a good percentage of copper it is also a reasonably good conductor and is commonly used in the electrical industry for switchgear components.
